“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”
2 Corinthians 5:17
I’m amazed that this week we are already moving into 2016! This time of the year presents us with the opportunity to change old habits, create new patterns, and move into a new year with high aspirations. This verse in 2 Corinthians is the perfect reminder of the new creation that we are, not just on New Years Day with our resolutions, but every day of the year.
God has designed us each individually to be in relationship with him even amidst the old choices we may have made. He sees us for the new choices we try to make and who we strive to be each day in Him. We take comfort in the fact that we are seen as the new person God creates in us every day. He doesn’t choose one day to turn a new leaf over in us, but He gives us the opportunity to change our hearts whenever we seek him.
I pray that as you ring in the New Year with friends and family that you would be reminded of the “new creation” you are in Christ every day. We serve a God who loves us regardless of our faults and who seeks to be in relationship with our new selves every moment of every year. What an awesome God we serve!
May you be encouraged through Christ as 2016 begins!
